The PlayStation 3, also known as the PS3, is a home video game console released by Sony Computer Entertainment in 2006. It was the successor to the PlayStation 2 and was designed to compete with Microsoft's Xbox 360 and Nintendo's Wii.

The PS3 was a 128-bit system and featured several improvements over its predecessor, including a more powerful processor, enhanced graphics, and a built-in Blu-ray player. It also introduced the DualShock 3 controller, which added vibration feedback to the previous DualShock 2 controller.
Some of the most popular and iconic games released on the PS3 include "The Last of Us," "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves," "Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots," "LittleBigPlanet," and "Demon's Souls."
The PS3 also introduced the PlayStation Network, which allowed players to access online multiplayer gaming, digital content, and media streaming services. It was the first PlayStation console to offer a paid subscription service for online gaming, known as PlayStation Plus.
Despite facing stiff competition from Microsoft's Xbox 360, the PS3 managed to sell over 80 million units worldwide and established Sony as a major player in the video game industry. It was succeeded by the PlayStation 4 in 2013.
