Since January 1, 2025, the museum has been welcoming visitors in Heraklion, Crete, offering a unique experience for gaming enthusiasts, technology lovers, and fans of digital culture.
With a collection featuring over 300 consoles and thousands of physical games, visitors can explore the evolution of video games from their earliest days to the present. The museum includes interactive exhibits, historical artifacts, and two time capsules: the 80s living room and the 90s kids' room, where guests can relive the atmosphere of those eras.
The idea for the museum was born in 2017 during a trip to New York City, when its founder, Manolis Varouchas, visited the Nintendo Store at Rockefeller Center. Realizing that he owned many of the iconic pieces on display, he was inspired to create a space dedicated to preserving gaming history. After years of planning, the museum became a non-profit initiative in 2022, and today, it stands as an important cultural heritage center for video games.
The Video Games Museum is more than just an exhibition space - it is a dynamic hub of learning, interaction, and entertainment, aiming to inspire visitors of all ages, gamers and non-gamers alike.
