Talk at Cretan Comic Con: Dad, What Is a Game Boy?

In front of a large crowd, with an audience spanning all ages—from kids and teenage gamers to parents who grew up playing games like the Game Boy—the talk became a journey through time, where the Game Boy wasn’t just a console, but a symbol of an entire era.

We took the audience on a nostalgic trip back in time, through personal memories and childhood stories, highlighting the evolution of gaming culture and how it has developed over the decades. Through the presentation, we explored the changes in technology, player mentality, and the ways in which video games have influenced (and continue to influence) our daily lives.

At the heart of the presentation was the Game Boy, a true milestone of its time. We analyzed the significance of its release in the late 1980s, its global impact, and its crucial role in shaping the handheld gaming experience.

We also emphasized the pivotal role of museums, such as the Video Games Museum, in preserving digital cultural heritage. Through rare exhibits, educational initiatives, and interactive experiences, these museums become bridges between past and present and serve as a source of inspiration for future generations.

With humor, nostalgia, and references to both technical aspects and social implications, the talk showcased how gaming culture shaped mindsets, united generations, and left a lasting mark on our modern technological identity.

Video games are not just entertainment—they are history, technology, emotion, and culture.
