Preserving Gaming History talk at EGX 2024, London
London, October 2024 - The upcoming Video Games Museum, set to open in Heraklion, Crete, left a lasting impression at EGX 2024 in London. Founder Manolis Varouchas delivered a powerful presentation that captivated attendees, underscoring the essential role of museums in preserving the rich history of video games.
Addressing a crowd of gaming enthusiasts, industry leaders, and supporters, we highlighted the mission of the Video Games Museum: to protect and showcase the legacy of video games as a crucial part of our cultural heritage. Video games have profoundly influenced our culture and technology, shaping generations in ways that must be preserved. The Video Games Museum exists to ensure these stories are remembered and celebrated for future generations.
The museum, slated to open in January 2025, will feature a comprehensive collection of over 300 consoles and thousands of physical games. Its inaugural exhibit, titled Choose Your Weapon, will explore the evolution of video game controllers, offering visitors hands-on experiences with the devices that have defined gaming history.
The passion from the EGX community was inspiring. Seeing so many people who value the importance of preserving gaming history fuels our mission, and we’re excited to move forward with the support of this incredible community. Looking ahead, the Video Games Museum is actively seeking collaborations with corporations dedicated to cultural preservation and gaming. With the support of future partners, the museum aims to expand its impact, offering an enduring legacy for the gaming community.
Thank you all and see you next year!
